Service users and staff have been working together on two dementia friendly installations at our specialised unit at Kingswood Court Day Centre, which have now been completed. The official opening was on 30th of July, and marked with a strawberry tea event, attended by service users, families and staff.
The projects included a transport area and a reminiscence room, which are designed to enhance service users experience at the day centre. As well as the strawberries, teas and scones on offer, the staff team were available on the day to discuss any aspects of interest, also providing information stalls and a raffle. An enjoyable time was had by all.
These rooms are a welcome addition to the ongoing areas of development in support of Dementia Ambassadors across Bon Accord Care to promote the use of the Promoting Excellence Framework for Dementia Learning and training. There are currently 20 active ambassadors.
Jane Summersgill, Integrated Unit Manager at Kingswood and Dementia Ambassador said: “Dementia Ambassadors are a force for change, to enable and support colleagues, workers, families and carers to think differently about dementia”.
