In Partnership with Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire schools, our Learning and Development team are delighted to announce the launch of the Foundation Apprenticeship in Social Services and Healthcare. The apprenticeships are a Skills Development Scotland (SDS) initiative which provide senior phase pupils the opportunity to gain vocational qualifications that combine sector specific skills alongside the knowledge that underpins these skills in a workplace setting.
Pupils work towards a Foundation Apprenticeship alongside their other time tabled subjects. They spend part of the school week learning in a class environment about the theory & knowledge involved in Social Services and Healthcare. When it is safe to do so young people will be coming into our services for work placements to gain practical, work based, learning. Whilst attending work placements they will be assessed for the 4 mandatory units of an SVQ level 2 by our experienced health and social care assessors. This gives young people the opportunity to enter a career in social services and healthcare by giving a clear pathway into our modern apprenticeship programme.
On completion of the FA Qualification, young people may wish to pursue further education through universities, colleges and learning providers in Scotland who recognise the qualification as 2 higher’s at a level B. This makes the FA programme particularly appealing to young students who prefer the practical approach rather than closed book exams.
More information will follow on supporting the apprentices as they prepare for beginning work placement.
